Help us save the Pacific Rod and Gun Club

Lake Merced Outdoor Center Proposal

After more than 80 years on Lake Merced, the lease for the Pacific Rod & Gun Club expired in April of 2015. In order to take a fresh look and new approach, several members and former leaders of the PRGC formed the Lake Merced Outdoor Center: a mixed-use recreational facility that will still maintain the historically significant trap and skeet shooting activities on the site at a reduced level. Designed by world renowned landscape architect, Hart Howerton, amenities of the Lake Merced Outdoor Center will include a new boathouse, restaurant space, cafe, gardening program, and various other entertainment and educational venues. In addition, the Lake Merced Outdoor Center will be 100% non-profit, which will allow it to be much more sustainable for future generations than a for-profit entity. Coalition partners who would be involved in the development of the Lake Merced Outdoor Center currently include:

  • California Waterfowl Association
  • Pacific Rod & Gun Club
  • Saint Ignatius Rowing
  • Pacific Rowing
  • UCSF Master Gardeners
  • Stag Dining Group

In addition, thanks to the hard work of PRGC leadership, there is currently a settlement from past PRGC insurance companies that will substantially help pay back expenses resulting from the SFPUC’s environmental cleanup of the site. This is a major contribution, and could have not been accomplished without the full cooperation and good faith of PRGC leaders.
